Types Of WiFi Antennas

Types of WiFi antennas

  • Wire Grid Parabolic Grid Antenna
  • Yagi Antenna
  • Backfire Antenna
  • Whip Antenna
  • Dipole Antenna
  • Omni Directional Antenna
  • Cantenna
  • Panel Antenna
  • Bow Tie Antenna
  • Rubber Duck Antenna
  • Patch Antenna

The Two main types of antennas are Directional Antennas and Omni-Derectional antennas.

Directional Antenna Vs. Omni Directional Antenna
Directional antennas, mainly used for distance (in one direction) or point to point networks. Directional antennas used in a multi point to point network are generally all pointed at an omni directional antenna as the center access point. Directional antennas are used more for distance in one direction.

Omnini Directional is usually used for Directing or receiving signal in 360 degree direction. Omni Directional antennas are also mainly used for a multi point to point networks, such as printer networks and wlan networks, where multiple conecctions are needed for one access point. Omni antennas are mainly used in local coffee shops, restruants and wlan networks, close to the access point.

Types Directional Antennas are:

  • Yagi Antenna
  • Cantenna
  • Wire Grid Parabolic antenna
  • Dish Antenna
  • Panel Antenna
  • Patch Antenna
  • Backfire Antenna

Types of Omni Directional

  • Whip Antenna
  • Dipole Antenna
  • Rubber Duck Antenna
  • Bow Tie Antenna

omnini direction- used for point to multi point. Generally used for multi printerworkgroups or WLAN because omni dirictional antennas recieve and send signal in several directions.

Common Directional Antennas

Parabolic dish antennas put out tremendous gain but are a little hard to point and make a connection with. As the gain increasess, the antenna’s pattern decreases until you have a very little window aim your dish correctly.Satalite Dish antennas are almost always used for a point to point system for long haul systems. The Parabolic Dish antennas work by focusing the power to a central point and beaming the radio’s signal to a specific area, Are the perfect tool if you want to send your signal a very long distance.

dipole Antennas are the most common type of Omni-Directional antenna. The omni directional antenna are used on routers, antenna towers, multi-point to point networks, Coffee shops, WLan networks and more. This method is used to push or receive signal in an equal 360 degree direction. Omni directional antennas are shorter in range but provide a better signal and don’t have to be pointed in a certain direction to pick up signal.
